Access to fresh, healthy food is a critical issue. By empowering neighbors and other volunteers to share in the harvest and care of fruit trees, we prevent waste, build community knowledge and resources, and create sustainable, low cost ways to obtain healthy, organic, locally-grown fruit. Learn how two programs, large and small, are working to advance solutions.
Shawn planted and harvested his own garden when he was 12 years old. He began gardening with youth in 2011 when he founded The Green Urban Lunch Box. He is a very creative person who learns by doing. Shawn also has a history of living his dreams. Shawn taught himself how to sail and then sailed from the US to Fiji. He has also motorcycled from the US to Central America. His latest dream includes educating youth and the general public about urban agriculture through The Green Urban Lunch Box. Shawn is passionate about creating a food system that is more sustainable and healthy.
Jason is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist and a graduate of the Municipal Forestry Institute (MFI). Jason achieved his Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) in November 2014. In 2012, Jason was recognized with the “Utah Forestry Stewardship Achievement Award.” Jason was recently recognized by the Utah Community Forestry Council as “2015 Arborist of the Year."
